Update on Zoning Issues
The Parking Lot Task Force passed a milestone recently. We were able to file plans with the City of Phoenix Development Services Department, one of several consideration filings that will go through the City of Phoenix. During this review, the city's development services office will consider our overall design, traffic flow, and details for change.
Our next step is to move toward Step 3 of rezoning. In the near future, we will file a rezoning application to run concurrent with the development review. Step 4 involves neighborhood notification letters, then subsequent steps involving other notifications and community meetings to follow with design over next six to twelve months. There will be expenses involved in publication and mailing in step 4 and future notification steps. We will need volunteers to help in that production process, so keep your helpful hands ready!
We are making ground, and so much work has been done, but most of this tedious process is unknown to our membership and LGBT community. Meetings, plans, drawings, legal filings, city consideration and determinations, are not very visual, but very paper/time- intensive. Most firms that transition this process, charge in 20-30 thousand dollars to provide what a handful of good hearted volunteers from our GLBT community have done, and are doing. We will need continued memberships support throughout rezoning, and even more during our parking reconstruction.
The Board is actively working with the city and the neighborhood to provide legal parking. More details will be provided to the LGBT recovery community as it develops. This is a lengthy, complicated process, but the ultimate result will be worth the time and efforts of those working on this project.
